Sexual Harassment Act, 2013
The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 is a legislative act in India that seeks to protect women from sexual harassment at their place of work. It was passed by the Lok Sabha on 3 September 2012. It was passed by the Rajya Sabha on 26 February 2013. This project is an attempt to spread out awareness for the act, as the visual illustrations have a wider reach especially in a multi-lingual country like India. The brief given by the team at UN Women was to create awareness posters which can reach out to all the strata of the community. These posters were specifically designed for Tea Estate in Assam. The challenge was to encompass all the levels of work spaces that are present in Tea Estate; from a hospital to a tea garden. We have also translated the posters in Assamese. The visuals were expected to be comic-like, hence we went with the generic caricatures. The headings given to each poster points to specific sections of the sexual harassment act.
